Allgäu/Bavarian Swabia
"Mountain air makes free". Nowhere in the world, there are more climatic health resorts, sanitariums and acknowledged spas than in the region Allgäu/Bavarian Swabia. These regions offer the Camper unlimited possibilities of natural-style holidays: Mountaineering, climbing or hiking, mountain biking or comfortable bike hiking in the slight hills of the Lower Alps, rafting or horse riding. Because of different levels of difficulty, everybody, young or old, free time or professional sportsman, families and singles, can have their profit.
Allgäu is an excellent all-season holiday country. From the higher mountains over the Lower Alps to the Bodensee shore: You can escape from your every day sorrows in about 40 mountain railways and lifts between Oberjoch, Kleinwalsertal and the regions from Königswinkel near Füssen over Oberstdorf up to Pfänder above Bodensee. Moreover, every place in Allgäu has between 80 and 300km of hiking tracks with standardized signposts.
In 2006, the GPS-supported hiking navigation in the district of Oberallgäu was expanded and the standardized signpost system was finished on the 4500km long track network.
It's not surprising that no one has bothered to add all the tracks including thematic hiking tracks, mountain pasture tracks and former pilgrim tracks in the whole Allgäu area. In the Allgäu Highalps, you can find most shelter huts and cultivated alpine pastures in the whole alp territory.
Who literally likes walking on sticks, will find his paradise in Allgäu's Nordic walking parks. It's home of the first if its kind in Nesselwang, the highest below the Oberstdorfer Nebelhorn,, the largest between Lindenberg and Oberstaufen and the first Nordic walking marathon in Ottobeuren.
And to have some variety, there's a diversified program of culture and relaxing at the tourist's disposition. You can immerge into the history of the mountain area and their mountain farmers, into art and customs or into one of the numerous event baths and spas e.g. in Kempten, Füssen, Oberstdorf, Oberstaufen, Bad Wörishofen and many more.
By the way, Oberstdorf is the most southern town in Germany and its valleys are a real paradise for hikers. Nebelhornbahn takes all mountain fans in just a few minutes into wuthering heights and presents a fabulous panorama. In the shadow of Germany's highest mountain railway, there's also Breitachklamm, a unique natural performance of overwhelming size and beauty. Kayak and climbing tours are almost obligatory for sportive tourists.
For those who'd like to lift off one time or who at least dream about it, Oberstdorf ski-jump is a worthwhile destination. This imposing construction is installed on a base of 500cubic meters of concrete and is fixed into the ground with 40 steel anchors.
